Ascension students receive backpacks from St. Vincent de Paul

Ascension students from our 7th and 8th grades were awarded backpacks with school supplies by the Los Angeles Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at an awards luncheon held at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens on Sept. 12.

“My parents sacrificed to send me to Catholic schools,” said David Fields, Executive Director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. “I understand the struggle of so many children and parents today. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is here to care for these courageous families.” Fields also shared his struggles as a student and how those academic pursuits led to his success.

Deb Estes, chairman of the Specialty Family Foundation, shared the foundation’s support and vision for making a difference in the education of under-served students through its Catholic Schools Consortium. Ascension is proud to be a founding member school in the Catholic Schools Consortium.

The L.A. branch of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic non-profit serving children, the homeless and the under-served free of charge, regardless of religion. The Specialty Family Foundation Catholic Schools Consortium

strives to alleviate the conditions that lead to poverty through a focus on education for low income families.
