Academics

Our staff at Ascension Catholic School takes each child’s well being very seriously. That is why the Extended Learning School Year was implemented in 2009 as a direct response to the need for quality educational opportunities in Los Angeles over the summer months. This initiative addresses the following issues:

  • Studies have shown that students have fallen as much as 3-1/2 grade levels attributable to learning lost over the long traditional summer.
  • Increasing achievement gap between low-income students and their middle income peers in Los Angeles.
  • A lack of meaningful summer opportunities for low-income students whose parents typically do not have the money to pay for recreational/education activities.
  • Ascension selects and engages with school partners that have the capacity to launch or expand meaningful, robust programs that combine strong academics with enrichment activities, thus reducing summer learning loss and having a positive impact on the achievement gap. More time to learn, less time to forget and more exposure to the world will help give your children the competitive edge to become successful.

Title 1

In addition to the core subjects, we also offer Title 1 services for students who qualify. The students who qualify are given small group instruction in Mathematics 3 days a week for 30 to 40 minutes.
